A New Approach to Communication
The answer may surprise you.
I have found the basis of improving Transformational Communication Skills, Conflict Management skills, handling Difficult Conversations and other forms of communicating aren’t techniques at all. Those are “outside-in” approaches. No, it starts with something else.
Truly Effective Communication is Never a Technique
If you want to become a truly effective communicator, you need to stop seeing communication as a series or system of techniques. I have learned that permanent improvement in attempting to communicate effectively with others starts with treating it like a practice that is based on building trust, managing ego and seeking to resolve conflict.
I believe the best way to start on that practice is with YOU, not the other person. That’s a theme that many of those above-mentioned workshops and courses seem to skip or skim over, possibly because no one attending wants to hear they’re a part of the problem. However, it is the most essential part of understanding how to be prepared for the next challenging conversation or unexpected conflict.
It’s a Journey, Never a Destination
My approach to communication skills improvement and communicating with others in general is multi-layered, but easy to remember. I believe communication skills improvement has always been a journey and never a destination. That’s not to say there won’t be scenic stops along the way to rest and ‘take it all in.’ Yet, those who are serious about their connection to others and really trying to improve how they communicate will know there is no ‘final arrival.’
That’s not an easy thing to hear, but it is true and I can show you how your challenges in communications can be faced and even overcome, if you’re willing to put in the effort. It’s not an easy process, but I assure you, it is totally worth it.
Additionally, this is not about teaching you how to manipulate or change others or their behavior. Instead, my process is about helping you to become while being and to be while becoming.
